What is now known as the Merrillville Rotary Club was chartered in February 20, 1944 as the Glen Park Rotary Club. Presiding over 19 members was J.B. Shaver who was the founder of Shaver Motors. As many of its members moved south to Merrillville and surrounding communities, the name was changed to Glen Park - Merrillville Rotary and finally to Merrillville Rotary. The club originally belonged to District 654. As the number of clubs expanded so did the need for additional districts which resulted in adding a "0" to all existing districts, making Merrillville Rotary Club a member of District 6540.

Merrillville Rotary Club is a service club that is active in local service efforts. The membership is composed of business professionals, business owners or partners, administrators of non-profits, and retirees. The main focus is "Service Above Self", however the driving force is the fellowship. We have a lot of fun just having our weekly luncheon meetings, or working on projects that benefit the needs within our local communities.

As you know, Merrillville Rotary is also part of a well known global organization, Rotary International, Our membership supports the eradication of Polio worldwide and other humanitarian projects such as portable water resources in under developed countries.

If you are interested in doing more then just "working your business" consider membership to Merrillville Rotary!! It is a  club that is welcoming and fun. The rewards of "Service Above Self" is the real profit for Rotarians.
